ARC: Wicked Heat – Ella Frank Book Review (Chicago Heat #1)

“He’s grumpy, rude, and honestly, not that likeable at all. So why can’t I stop thinking about him?”

Wicked Heat, an all-new high heat and slow burn mm romance, and the first book in the Chicago Heat Series from USA Today bestselling author Ella Frank, is live now!

Synopsis

Ryan

Kind, caring, and protective. Those are the three qualities I’m looking for when it comes to my dream man. In a city as big as Chicago, you wouldn’t think he would be that hard to find, right?

Wrong.

Sure, my boss found a super-sexy detective and my best friend fell madly in love with the most eligible bachelor around. But the only person I’ve met recently is a broody bad boy who saved me at a sketchy pub.

He’s grumpy, rude, and honestly, not that likeable at all. Hardly my “dream” guy.

So why can’t I stop thinking about him?

Jameson

I don’t do friendships. I don’t do relationships either. The very last thing I’m looking for in life is to fall in love and live happily ever after.

So saving some rich guy from losing his wallet is the last thing I want to do on a Friday night. Especially when he looks like someone who just stepped off the cover of GQ.

Fate seems to have other ideas, though, and every time I turn around, he’s there.

A wicked heat simmers between us, threatening to ignite, and though I’ve been trained to put out the flames, I can’t help but think: What’s the worst that could happen if I let this desire burn out of control?

Wicked Heat is book 1 of 2 in Ryan Carrigan & Jameson Clarke’s story.

Review:

I’ve run out of different ways to express my love for Ella Frank’s books!

I’m not kidding, I feel like all my reviews for this author’s work are similar in the sense that I just repeat how much I love and adored them and that’s why I always struggle to review them but man, what else is there to say. In my eyes, she can do no wrong and she is without a doubt, my favourite author. Wicked Heat is just a testament to her incredible talent and unwavering ability to absolutely capture my attention with her phenomenal stories even 31 books later, I’m still as in love with her writing as I was way back when I picked up my first Ella Frank book.

Wicked Heat was everything I could have wanted and more.

I have been waiting for mister Ryan Carrigan to get his love story since he was first introduced a while back in Xander and Sean’s series, The Intentions duet because he just seemed sweet and fun. When Ella announced who his love interest was going to be, I was blown away with excitement because that little glimpse of Jameson at the end of Killian and Bash’s series, The Dare to Try Series, left me wanting to know more about the mysterious and grumpy dude.

Suffice to say, these guys were quite the match. Ryan and Jameson are, evidently very different from one another which plays into the opposites attract trope but it was really well done. It isn’t cliche or anything of the sort, rather because there was a natural progression from resistance to friends to lovers, it felt like them getting together was a genuine and inevitable thing. Their connection and chemistry were clear from the start and you could just tell that there was something just attracting them to one another.

Ryan was funny, outgoing and kind. He was constantly aware and considerate of Jameson’s feelings and was just an all-around amazing man. Jameson was more of a closed-off, quiet and surly guy. He definitely had walls put up because of what seems like a tough past which I’m interested in learning more of cause I feel like we only just scratched the surface with that.

The romance between these guys was both very sweet as they became friends and got to know one another and then became smoking hot once they put an end to the angst tension and gave in to their attraction. Honestly, Ryan and Jameson just clicked and it’s not for nothing that Jameson opened up in a way that was completely unlike him when he was with Ryan and that Ryan felt wholeheartedly protected, safe and comfortable with a man as closed off as Jameson was for a chunk of their time together. They were just sexy as hell and right for each other and I can’t wait to see what happens next because the ending left so many things up in the air.

As far as development goes, which if you’ve read my reviews before you know is very important to me, this book hit all the marks. Ella Frank’s books are not particularly long and read pretty quickly which you might think risks skimping out on development or proper pacing but that is not the case with this author. Her stories are just so well written that she managed to pace the plot appropriately so that it develops throughout the book and doesn’t feel too slow or fast. She also made sure to have Ryan and Jameson evolve throughout the book and grow because of their relationship, which itself also changed over time. All that to say, this book feels like it passes in a blink of an eye but yet feels like so I’ve been touched by so many emotions and have seen such a wonderful storyline play out in front of my eyes. I just can’t wait for more!

Fun, thrilling and sexy, Wicked Heat was the most amazing start to Ryan and Jameson’s love story!

Overall, I adored every second of this book and I’m really excited to see where Ella takes things in Wicked Flame. Those last couple of chapters had me tense with anticipation and were just heart-wrenching. I’m giving Wicked Heat 5 stars and would recommend it to fans of m/m romance. And as always, it was lovely to see some familiar faces!

ARC: Doll Parts – Cara Dee Book Review (The Game #4) + Excerpt

Synopsis:

Get ready for a funhouse experience that doesn’t belong in an amusement park. But clowns and balloons don’t turn this scorching hot BDSM romance into a wild ride. That’s all Noa, Cam, Lucian, and KC.

I have the best boyfriend in the whole world, but there’s one thing I won’t tell him. It’s that I don’t believe in absolute happiness anymore. Not with the cards we’ve been dealt. I mean, come on! Why do we fall for people who don’t want us back? While he’s been pining after Lucian, one of the Masters in his kink community, I’m the lovesick monster-puppy Little who can’t forget my former stepdad KC. Or the kinky porn I once found on his computer…but that’s beside the point!

It’s complicated, to be honest. I try not to think about it. I have Cameron, and I love him so damn much. Why can’t we try to make it on our own? Why does he want us to find a Top that’s just ours? It won’t work. Our stupid hearts refuse to move on.

What’s even stupider is that Cameron insists we seek out a Dom for our relationship in the very kink community where we can find both KC and Lucian.

Ohhh crap. I think he’s got a plan.

The Game Series is a BDSM series where romance meets the reality of kink. Sometimes we fall for someone we don’t match with, sometimes vanilla business gets in the way of kinky pleasure, and sometimes we have to compromise and push ourselves to overcome trauma and insecurities. No matter what, two things are certain. This is not a perfect world, and life never turns out the way you planned.

Review:

I’ve enjoyed all of the books in this series so far so I was excited to hear about the release of Doll Parts!

I’m fairly familiar with Cara Dee’s books and I know they tend to be unique, sexy and also very cute. While I have really enjoyed the other stories in this series, I have to say that Doll Parts wasn’t as big of a hit for me as the others were. Nevertheless, it was enjoyable and I’m certainly interested in reading more in this series!

Doll Parts was hot as hell but I wanted more from the romance!

First of all, I liked the storyline. It seemed like it would make for an exciting story with that bit of a taboo element tossed in and some second chance romance and it definitely was exciting but it fell short in the development. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any connection with the characters or feel a genuine connection between them.

Out of the four characters, Noa was only slightly more developed than all the others in my opinion but that left me wanting to know more about Cam, Lucian and KC. When you’re writing a book where the relationship has several people, you want to really take the time to flesh each and every one of them out so that the reader can get a sense of who they are and build a connection with them but that part seemed to be glossed over because I felt like I missed out on a lot. It was kind of taken for granted that the history between KC & Noa and Lucian & Cam would speak for themselves and tell us everything we needed to know about the guys and their relationship but that didn’t work for me. As a result, I never was able to full connect with them.

I also felt like the romance was a little hard to buy into. I could understand the attraction between them and affection/friendship but love felt like a bit of a stretch. Things moved really quickly and I just never felt like they took the time to fall for one another, rather it seemed like everyone already loved each other in an insta-love kind of way and nothing actually evolved besides them officially getting together. I don’t know how else to explain it, not enough happened. It all just kind of blended together for me.

My other thing is with the relationship between the four of them. I never quite felt like it was an MMMM romance, it felt more like a bunch of couples. I don’t think enough time was spent developing the relationship between KC & Cam, KC & Lucian and Lucian & Noa. As a whole, I was just a little disappointed with the characters and their romance.

I did however like the lightheartedness of the story and the steam which was really well done of course. It wasn’t a bad book by any means, it just wasn’t as interesting as I was expecting it to be. Honestly, at this point I’m noticing that the books in this series are kind of blending into one another so that might be my problem. They all just seem too similar and follow a similar pattern.

Steamy and sweet Doll Parts is a fun and quick read but it just didn’t quite meet my expectations.

Overall, I had a nice time reading this book and it was fun to read the cute and sassy banter but I was little disappointed that I didn’t love it. In the end, it ended up being an OK read but not much more than that. It needed a lot more character and relationship development for me to have fallen head over heals with the story but I do think it’ll be a hit for many readers. I am giving Doll Parts 3.75 stars would recommend it to fans of MMMM romance with BDSM elements.

Excerpt

I couldn’t go up there, could I?
I squinted for the sun and peered up at the pale-green–painted trendy restaurant, all three stories of it, including the rooftop terrace. It was one of those restaurants that used to be an apartment building, so you had a bunch of smaller dining areas inside.
I chewed on the inside of my cheek and wondered how the hell I hadn’t connected the dots sooner.
Fuck, it was hot. I ran a hand through my hair and looked around me. The restaurant was right on the corner of a busy intersection, and the sleepy locals on their way to brunch were sharing the sidewalk with tourists.
Maybe I should text him and call it off…
“Excuse me, are you going to the munch?”
I cocked my head to the guy to my left. He was about my age, I estimated. “What if I didn’t know what a munch was?”
He grinned, and it was hot. Hot and cute. “I would’ve said never mind and hightailed it out of here,” he replied. “But I’ve been around long enough to spot someone too nervous to join an event.”
Oh. I wasn’t nervous to join an event. My very first munch, I’d been the first to arrive.
I scratched my head. “I’m stalling because I’m pretty sure I’m barging into someone else’s territory,” I admitted. “My mom’s ex-husband is kinky too.”
The guy made a yikes-face, and I felt the need to elaborate.
“I check his Instagram sometimes, and if he posts four pictures every month, one is from this place,” I explained. “Usually with a caption like ‘Luke is teaching me to post foodporn, whatever that is’ and ‘Macklin’s eggs Benedict are a bit of a religious experience.’”
I could tell I’d mentioned names the guy recognized. I was right. This was the munch of KC’s kink community. Motherfucker. I’d seen eight pictures from this place on KC’s dusty Instagram—or parts of the place. Mostly from the rooftop terrace. Maybe that was where they hosted the munch.
“You know them, don’t you?” I pressed.
The guy smiled uncertainly and shrugged slightly. “We take integrity seriously, but…”
Yeah.
“Who’s your mother’s ex-husband?”
“KC Hayles.”
He nodded once. He’d heard that name too. Then he eyed someone else, or two someones, coming up the sidewalk. They were twins. Hot-as-shit set of twins in their forties.
One of them smirked upon seeing the guy I’d been talking to. “You hidin’, Cameron?”
I observed the guy’s reaction. Cameron. A crooked grin full of mischief lit up his face. He was really fucking cute, and I didn’t usually feel attraction toward men my age. He was a bit taller than me but not much. Blue eyes.
“Does that sound like something I would do, Sir?” Cameron countered.
Definitely a submissive.
One of the twins chuckled and ruffled Cameron’s shaggy, dirty-blond hair. “See you upstairs, boy.” He spared me the quickest of glances, lifted his brow a little, maybe in curiosity, before he and his brother took the steps up to the restaurant.
Cameron turned back to me. “It’s possible you’ve stumbled upon your stepdad’s community.”
I figured. “I’ll just reschedule with the guy I was gonna meet. Thanks for letting me know.”
It wasn’t too important I met him today anyway. It was only a bite to eat to see if I was compatible to play with him and his boyfriend.
Cameron cleared his throat. “Hey, wait. If you know KC… Does that mean you know Lucian too?”
That would be a stretch. “I’ve met him a few times, sure. I wouldn’t say I know him, though.” I’d had my suspicions about Lucian—that he was kinky too. It wasn’t a surprise whatsoever to have it confirmed. He was big-time Master material. “Why? Are you together or something?”
Cameron snorted. “I wish. No, he’s with some dude who’s manipulating him like fucking whoa, and Lucian won’t see it.”
I frowned. That didn’t compute with my impression of Lucian.
“Anyway,” Cameron went on. “Here’s a crazy idea. You wanna get out of here and grab a burger or something? Your plan fell through, and I can think of better things to do than watch Lucian and his little troll.”
I stood straighter instantly. This guy wanted to hang out? Fuck yes! I could use a new friend.
“Absolutely,” I said, sticking out my hand. “I’m Noa.”
Cameron smiled, visibly relieved. “Cameron.”

About Cara

I’m often awkwardly silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there’s so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex.
There’s a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly.
Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve.
I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.
Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.
I’m a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, cooking, baking, and geeking. There’s time for hockey and family, too. But mostly, I just love to write.

ARC: These Thorn Kisses – Saffron A. Kent Book Review (St. Mary’s Rebels #3)

Blurb

Eighteen-year-old, Bronwyn Littleton is in love with a stranger she met on a summer night a year ago.

A stranger who was tall and broad in a way that made her feel safe. He had dark blue eyes that she can’t stop drawing in her sketch book. And he had a deep, soothing voice that she can’t stop hearing in her dreams.

That’s all she knows about him though.

Until she runs into him again. At St. Mary’s School for Troubled Teenagers – an all girls reform school – where she’s trapped because of a little crime she committed in the name of her art.

Now she knows that her dream man has a name: Conrad Thorne.

She knows that his eyes are way bluer and way more beautiful than she thought. And that his face is an artist’s wonderland.

But she also knows that Conrad is her best friend’s older brother. Which means he’s completely off-limits. Not to mention, he’s the new soccer coach, which makes him off-limits times two.

What makes him off-limits times three however, and this whole scenario an epic tragedy, is that, Conrad, Wyn’s dream man, has a dream girl of his own.

And he’s as much in love with his dream girl as Wyn is in love with him…

NOTE: This is a STANDALONE set in the world of St. Mary’s.

Review

I’ve been loving this series and couldn’t wait for Wyn and Conrad’s story!

I think this was one of the books in this series that I was most anticipating and I was happy with the way it turned out. Saffron A. Kent writes angst, tension and forbidden romance so well. From start to finish, it was a fun, and cute ride with lots of steam and super sweet moments.

Wyn and Conrad were great characters!

I really liked these two. They were quite different but complemented each other well. I loved how Wyn cracked Conrad’s shell and I loved his dirty talk. Their banter was really nice and I had a great time reading their story. It was a whole lotta cute!

Full of angst and forbidden hotness, These Thorn Kisses was a great read!

Overall, I had wonderful time reading this book and thought the story was lovely. I especially loved the forbidden aspect since that’s my favorite trope! I am giving These Thorn Kisses 4.5 stars and would recommend it to fans of forbidden romance!

Review

This book was completely addictive and frankly one of the best written forbidden romances that I’ve ever read!

Pam Godwin is one of my favourite authors of all time and I’ll blindly and happily read anything and everything she writes. I’ve read several of her novels and know just how addictive and beautifully written they are so when I picked this one up, I knew I was in for something epic that would consume every second of my life. Lessons in Sin did exactly that, from the very first chapter, I was sucked right into this breathtaking story and I didn’t want to put it down. I procrastinated so hard toward the end because I just didn’t want to finish it because wow, this book was something special!

First, I’d like to point out that this book is part of the Midnight Dynasty series which is a multi-author series. I didn’t know about this series before reading Lessons in Sin and so didn’t read any of those books before this one. That in no way affected my reading as all the books standalone but Tinsely’s brothers, I believe, feature in their own books throughout the series. Alright, carry on…

As a fan of forbidden romance, Lessons in Sin ticked all my boxes.

I am a forbidden romance super fan but honestly, Pam Godwin excels at these student/teacher age-gap romances. She has a way with words that is just beyond anything I’ve read before and I’m just utterly captivated by her stories. She creates such heart-wrenching stories with wonderfully developed, complex characters and a romance that just takes your breath away. Pam Godwin’s writing is simply put, poignant, addictive and in a league of its own. Her talent knows no bounds!

Now, the writing and execution of this book were great. I have nothing but positive comments on this front. The pacing was perfect for the story and the plot developed nicely. I guess you could say there was some angst and build up at the beginning of the story which I think worked extremely well for the way things would progress and there really wasn’t a single aspect of the story that felt rushed or dull so as a whole this was a perfectly executed story.

As for the content, it was spot on. I was wholeheartedly invested in Tinsley and Magnus’s relationship. It was full of tension, insane chemistry, unspeakably steamy sexy times and an undeniable romantic connection. Tinsely was a great heroine. She was strong, outgoing, bold and wasn’t afraid of letting herself be vulnerable. She stood up for herself and humbly accepted the care that was offered to her without being bratty or too standoffish. She was mature for her age yet young at heart and definitely the kind of heroine that I gravitate towards. Magnus, oh Magnus, how I loved him. The man was the epitome of tall, dark and handsome, but there was so much more to him than meets the eye. Magnus was intelligent, caring unwavering, protective and possessive. The man knew exactly what he liked and what he wanted and though he had waves of patience, nerves of steel and restraint like no other, I especially loved that once he gave in to his feelings for Tinsely, that he didn’t try to deny it or chalk it up to her teenage fantasies or something equally as petty. He was all in and that devotion was heady and made for an exciting romance.

Speaking of the romance, holy smokes it was hot hot hot. The steam was on a whole other level and that in combination with their undeniable chemistry made things even sexier. Tinsely and Magnus had an immediate connection. It wasn’t necessarily romantic or even sexual, it was just something that was there, a sort of tension that showed that these two people had a spark that was just waiting to be ignited into a flame and boy did it ever burn. Tinsely and Magnus just fit together so well and were truly soulmates, both filling a void in each other’s lives and being exactly what the other needed. They understood each other and supported one another and honestly, what they had was off the charts special, they were so in sync and just beautiful. They had many things that forced them to hide their romance like the obvious “forbidenness” of it all, but there was more at stake than just that. I enjoyed the sneaking around because it made it all the more intense and gripping. There was also a gritty element to their romance and the story also had a bit of a suspenseful or darker undertone. That isn’t to say the story is dark because it isn’t, but the vibes are kind of suspenseful and a bit gloomy. There also some fun moments and other things, it’ll definitely have you feeling an array of emotions.

Sexy, addictive and impeccably written, Lessons in Sin is a beautiful, intense forbidden romance with amazing, complex characters.

Overall, Lessons in Sin was a phenomenal read and I really didn’t want to have to say goodbye to these characters. Everything about this book called to the romance reader inside me and it was exactly the type of story I love to lose myself in. I am giving Lessons in Sin 5 incredible stars and would recommend it to fans of forbidden romance with a student/teacher trope.

“Nothing is going to prevent me from being with you in the way I’ve only ever been in my dreams.”

Review

Gabriel and Ivy’s story was one wild ride!

I’m no stranger to Lily White and I love her writing so I’m completely on board with this series. That being said, from the first to Inferno books, I can say, they aren’t my favorite works from this author. That isn’t to say Fraud was bad, just like with Treachery, there were ups and downs.

Fraud was a nice continuation to this series and has set up for the next book which is my most anticipated of the series!

Fraud was enemies-to-lovers at it’s finest and as such featured so epic angst and tons of repression of feelings and emotions. Gabriel is a liar at his core who doesn’t shy away from using manipulation to get his way but Ivy is his perfect match in her refusal to sit by and take what he dishes out. No, she gives as good as she gets and she’s the feisty minx to his calculated manipulator. These two were great together and had a strong and deep connection that went back to their childhood. I enjoyed this aspect of their relationship and unlike with Luca and Tanner, I genuinely felt that there was an emotional side of their relationship as opposed to just a physical attraction. As a whole, I’d say the romance and the continuation and progression of the secrets and mystery that carry this series were the highs but as I mentioned, there were some lows.

These lows I speak of pertained to the characters individually and the overall execution of the book.

First, when it came to Gabriel there was heavy emphasis on the fact that he wore a mask which was mentioned over and over again to the point where it got borderline annoying. It was also said that Ivy was the only one to see him without his mask when he let his guard down in her presence. However, in those moments where Ivy proclaimed he wasn’t hiding behind his mask, I didn’t actually perceive a difference in his personality. Instead, the only times he really actually removed his mask according to Ivy was when they were intimate in any capacity. Aside from that, the mask didn’t feel like an integral part of Gabriel, more like a convenient case of telling as opposed to showing.

My next point pertains to both Ivy and Gabriel and that is that I didn’t feel like I knew them on a deeply personal level. I felt like I got to know anecdotal information about them but did I really get to know them enough to build a genuine connection to them? My answer would be no.

Also, Ivy seemed a bit immature at times and while I did appreciate her strength sometimes I thought her and Gabriel needed to tone it down a little with their extreme prank war that didn’t feel all that significant.

As for the execution of the book, there was lots of repetition both in insinuations and in sentences. The story felt like it dragged on at times and it became hard to push forward in the story. Any progress between Gabriel and Ivy would be backtracked and after the first few times this happened, I almost could no longer maintain meaningful interest in their story. Thankfully their romance held up and kept me wanting to move forward to see where it would go because I recognized genuine chemistry but I wanted more from Fraud than I got. Generally speaking, my enjoyment of Fraud was near identical to my enjoyment of Treachery in that id was good but not great and that it did serve to increase my excitement for the subsequent books in the series. Ezra has been the Inferno guy I’ve been most looking forward to so I very much look forward to reading his book because I strongly believe his will be the one that really grips me in this series. Plus, I can’t wait to discover more about this world and revisit past characters and their relationships.

Sexy, full of angst and tinged with mystery and suspense, Fraud is a whirlwind enemies-to-lovers romance!

Overall, I did have my issues with Fraud but it was still a pretty good read. I enjoyed getting to see Luca, Tanner, and the gang again and it did make me excited about the direction of the series. The vibe of the Antihero Inferno series may not have hooked me just yet but I love Lily White and so I am incredibly optimistic. I am giving Fraud 4 stars and would recommend it to fans of intense enemies-to-lovers romance!

California Dreamin’ – Saffron A. Kent Book Review

Blurb

Everyone thinks Dean Collins is too old for Fallon Blackwood. Her parents, her friends, even Dean himself.

In fact, he wants her to date guys her own age. But Fallon doesn’t care about that.

All she cares about is that she can’t take his eyes off Dean, her neighbor, her best friend, the guy who taught her to ride a bike and to climb trees.

All she cares about is that sometimes Dean can’t take his eyes off her, either. And that sometimes he looks at her like he wants to kiss her.

So it doesn’t matter that he’s thirty-two and she’s eighteen.

All that matters is that they belong with each other, and she needs to convince him of that.

Good thing they’re taking a cross-country road trip together, right?

California to New York; three thousand miles and a love story in the making…

*Featuring Simon Blackwood and Graham Edwards from ‘The Heartstone Series.’

**This is a STANDALONE NOVELLA. It was released as a part of Mixtape Anthology. Since then, it has been revised and expanded and re-titled.

Review

My heart is so happy, California Dreamin’ was a beautiful trip down memory lane!

I am obsessed with forbidden romance and Saffron A. Kent is the absolute queen of forbidden romance. California Dreamin’ was such an exciting read, it featured all of my favorite characters and gave readers a new couple to root for!

Fallon and Dean were great. Their age-gap romance was so fun and I was crazy for them. They had such intense chemistry that spanned years and I was all for it. These two had a fiery and angsty romance and the outcome was so worth the build-up. This is a quick novella so it doesn’t dive deep into their romance, but their history does make up for it and makes their love story feel so special.

Quick, sweet, and full of fun fiery romance, California Dreamin’ is a beautiful little treat for lovers of the Heartstone crew.

Overall, I had a great time reading this little novella. I hadn’t realized how much I missed Saffron’s characters until I got to see them again and it was so amazing. I am giving California Dreamin’ 4.5 stars and would recommend it to fans of forbidden romance with an age-gap!

“You are my home, Fallon,” he growls. “Your heart, your soul , your body… I’ve been a fool, you see. I’ve been a fucking fool. You never leave your home, do you? You never leave the place you belong. And I belong with you.”

Review

Need For Speed was amazing from start to finish!

Solo and Panther’s relationship really took off in this book. They were fiery hot, had insane chemistry and those lovey feelings are starting to blossom which makes my heart all swoony. I’m having the best time following the evolution of their rocky romance and navigating the forbidden aspect of it all.

“Under Solo’s strict ministrations, I’d never felt better in all my life.”

Solo is great. The more I get to know about him, the more I love him and his kindness, acceptance and infallible encouragement. Panther is also an awesome guy. We know him as serious, studious and determined, but this time around we got a more vulnerable, softer side of him which was nice. Panther is so sweet and comforting, he and Solo are just a perfect match.

These two clearly care for each other deeply and Ella and Brooke have done a fantastic job of bringing their story to life. As a huge aviation nerd, I’m loving all the technical bits and the flying scenes but as a romance lover, I’m absolutely adoring the sexy connection between Solo and Panther.

“Like you said, I can’t think of anywhere I’d rather be than sitting in this car, sharing this meal, with a man I never knew I was looking for until today.”

Brooke and Ella are so flipping talented and this series is going to definitely make it into my top reads list for sure.

Overall, I’m in love with Grant and Mateo and their wonderful series. It’s so addictive and I can’t get enough. I can’t wait to get my hands on the conclusion to Panther and Solo’s epic journey! I’m giving Need For Speed 5 stars and would recommend it to fans of military romance and m/m romance.

“I see a man I wasn’t looking for. A man I didn’t even know was there, until right now. And Solo?”

“Yeah?”

“I can’t think of anywhere else I’d rather be than sitting with him in this car right now, holding his hand.”

ARC: Reborn Yesterday – Tessa Bailey Book Review (Phenomenal Fate #1) + Excerpt

RY - BT banner

BLURB

While their love is strictly forbidden, it might be the only thing that can save them…

Reborn Yesterday, an all-new unique and unforgettable paranormal romantic comedy from New York Times bestselling author Tessa Bailey, is available now.

A timeless love story with bite.

It was a night like any other for funeral home director Ginny Lynn, until the exceptionally handsome—and unfortunately deceased—young man on her embalming table sat up, opened his emerald eyes and changed the course of her life forever, making her feel quite fluttery while he was at it.

Humans aren’t supposed to know Jonas Cantrell, or any vampire, exists. It’s kind of a major rule. Despite his instantaneous bond with perfectly peculiar Ginny, he has no choice but to erase her memories of their one and only meeting.

That was the plan. Before a reluctant Jonas can wipe Ginny’s mind clean, she reveals a secret that brings their worlds crashing together. Human and vampire. Past and present. Darkness and light. And while their love is strictly forbidden, it might be the only thing that can save them…

REVIEW

Reborn Yesterday was perfect in all the ways and reminded me why I love Tessa Bailey so bleeping much!

I didn’t know how much I needed this book in my life until Tessa announced she was writing a paranormal romance. Reborn Yesterday was fantastic, it was fun, full of angst and sexy to boot. I loved the staple witty writing Tessa absolutely excels at and the characters stole my heart from the very beginning. Their romance was irresistible and gah I just loved every last bit of it.

“I can’t stand to be away from you”

Reborn Yesterday is a must-read if you want to feel all the feels, swoon like a loon and long for a hunky vampire of your own!

Ah, Jonas and Ginny. What a lovely pair they were. Jonas is broody, protective and such a sweet gentleman. He’s also got a badass side being the strong vampire he is which was so hot. His possessive streak with Ginny was so endearing because he cared for her so deeply and only wanted her to be safe. Ginny was a hoot. Her lack of a filter and tendency to talk out loud make me laugh so damn much. She was full of witty banter and just one hell of an awesome girl. I’d love to be her friend, she was so kind and considerate.

“Christ, Ginny, you are so endearing, it’s painful.”

Jonas and Ginny were soulmates through and through. Their connection was instantaneous, undeniable and full of angst. The sexual tension was out of this world and once they gave into that intense chemistry beating between them all bets were off. Talk about sexy as hell! Vampire Jonas and Human Ginny were a force to be reckoned with. Their connection was so powerful, deep and the love between them was glaring. I loved the two of them together and their unwavering care for one another. Jonas and Ginny’s banter put a huge smile on my face, had me laughing out loud and swooning like crazy. Jonas’s sweet compliments were so charming and Ginny’s resolute desire to be there for Jonas was amazing. Here we have this all-powerful creature and this human girl just wants to wrap him up and make sure he’s safe. Ugh, be still my beating heart. The way the two of them just knew each other instinctively and cared for each other so deeply just make my heart full to bursting.

“It will forever be one of the universe’s greatest mysteries that you’ve remained here for twenty-four years without turning every male you meet into a lovesick fool who worships at your feet.”

Witty, fun and hot hot hot, Reborn Yesterday was an amazing read and I couldn’t get enough!

Overall, I was hooked from start to finish to this beautiful book. Ginny and Jonas were great characters, their romance was so sweet, sexy and full of angst and banter. I could read these two for hours and days on end but I can’t wait to see what Tessa has next in her paranormal repertoire. I am giving Reborn Yesterday 5 magnificent stars and would recommend it to fans of romantic comedies and paranormal romance!

EXCERPT

“Will there be a million weeping women at your wake?” She tapped a finger to her lips. “There will be, I’m sure of it. The place will overflow with tears. I better make sure our flood insurance is up to date.”
As she commenced circling the table once more, her white lab coat scratched against the hem of her green plaid dress, which fell sensibly to her knees. It was cold in the funeral home, especially downstairs where P. Lynn Funeral Home’s guests were kept in preparation for their final goodbye, so she’d pulled on thick black stockings with a flower pattern before coming below to work the night shift.
Dressing with care was Ginny’s way of showing respect to the people she worked on—a fact her stepmother and reluctant business partner often scoffed over—but a T-shirt and jeans simply didn’t cut the mustard when she’d been entrusted with a loved one’s care. Ginny had designed and sewn her current ensemble in class and she definitely shouldn’t be wondering what Dreamboat here would think about the cut and fabric. Or if he’d notice she’d fitted it a touch tighter in the hip zone than usually made her comfortable.
“I need help.” She gathered her auburn hair over one shoulder. “You agree, don’t you? Finally, you’ve gotten peace and quiet from your multitude of admirers and here I come, trying to annoy you into reanimation so I can find out the color of your eyes. You must want to die all over again.”
Continuing her journey around the table, Ginny’s gaze ticked to the clock, reminding her she should have started working half an hour ago. Why was she so reluctant to begin? Where did she get off experiencing the weight of loss when she’d never crossed paths with this individual before?
“Anyway, I know what you’re thinking. She’s brought up my legion of female fans three times now. She must be jealous.” Ginny stopped beside Dreamboat and looked down at his regal brow, the masculinity of his jaw, and a horrible welling started in her chest. “I think you’d be right,” she whispered in a red-cheeked rush. “I think if you’d smiled at me even once on the subway a decade ago, I’d be out avenging your death right now. Isn’t that crazy?”
Just to be sure a terrible (wonderful) mistake hadn’t been made, Ginny lifted her right hand, letting two fingers hover over Dreamboat’s pulse. Her heart rate spiked at the prospect of touching him, which didn’t bode well for tonight’s task of filling his veins with formaldehyde. How could she give him the proper care he deserved if she couldn’t stop shaking?
A bracing breath passed between her lips.
She touched her fingers down to his pulse.
Nothing.
There had been no mistake.
He was thoroughly, devastatingly dead.

“I’m so sorry,” Ginny managed, her tears welling at such a rapid pace that one escaped, glopping heavily onto the man’s stone cold torso.
His eyes shot open.
His…eyes shot open?

About Tessa

Tessa Bailey is originally from Carlsbad, California. The day after high school graduation, she packed her yearbook, ripped jeans and laptop, driving cross-country to New York City in under four days. Her mostessa-bailey-300x300t valuable life experiences were learned thereafter while waitressing at K-Dees, a Manhattan pub owned by her uncle. Inside those four walls, she met her husband, best friend and discovered the magic of classic rock, managing to put herself through Kingsborough Community College and the English program at Pace University at the same time. Several stunted attempts to enter the workforce as a journalist followed, but romance writing continued to demand her attention. She now lives in Long Island, New York with her husband of eleven years and seven-year-old daughter. Although she is severely sleep-deprived, she is incredibly happy to be living her dream of writing about people falling in love.

BLURB

He was the man who destroyed me. The monster who left me in pieces over a decade ago.
I swore I’d never speak to him again, that I’d never set eyes on him again as long as I lived.
But I was wrong.
When life gets too much and you need to escape, the poison that might kill you becomes oh so tempting.

I craved his perverted ways, his smirk, his laughter as he pushed my body way past its limits.
I needed a release from the crazy. Just once.
Just one night. That’s what I told myself.
No strings, no illusions, no promises. Nothing but the lasting thrill of his flesh on mine.
The lasting hit of his poisonous touch.
But when poison runs through your veins, the way he runs through mine, it’s toxic and eats you alive.

This much passion always comes at a price…

REVIEW

Wow, Poison packed one hell of an emotional punch!

I love Jade West’s writing and truly will read anything she writes. Poison had such a profound and deep storyline, I couldn’t pass up the opportunity to read it. Knowing how personal to Jade herself it was made me appreciate it so much and honestly, from the bottom of my heart, Poison was a phenomenal read.

“You can’t ever change the past, no matter how much you want to, so why give it any more of your future than you have to?”

From beginning to end, I was captivated by these characters and their tumultuous yet beautiful romance.

Poison is the kind of story that stretches you thin, makes you feel all kind of emotions, tears your heart out, turns you into a swoony mess and puts a brilliant smile on your face. The range of emotions I experienced reading this book was crazy and I adored every second I got to spend with Anna and Lucas. Anna was an amazing, strong and special woman. I admired her courage and confidence immensely and she was so easy to identify and connect with. I really did love her as a heroine. Lucas was a kind, caring, and wonderful man. Despite his mistakes, there wasn’t a hateful bone in his body and his protective, possessive and affectionate sides were irresistible and made him all the easier to fall head over heels for.

88346917_10157584419304022_5172544228286267392_o

Anna and Lucas shared some intense chemistry. They obviously had a history which gave their relationship even more depth. The connection between the two of them was undeniable and it was so glaring that they were meant for each other. The mistakes that riddled their past broke my heart but it made them all the stronger for striving to move past it. Anna and Lucas were also unspeakably sexy. The steam, the fiery hotness, and the epic sexual tension were just out of this world. This right here was some of the filthiest, most panty-twisting stuff I’ve ever read and I loved it.

87542038_10157584419369022_6731751608822005760_o

All around this book was just a pleasure to read. I loved the growth both characters went through and appreciated the second-chance romance so much. I normally don’t gravitate towards this trope but Jade West developed it so wonderfully it felt authentic and in the end so rewarding. Anna and Lucas’ HEA was so satisfying and hopeful, it just made me so utterly happy.

“I should be checking out my phone and telling him to take me home to my regular world, but I didn’t want my regular world. I wanted his.”

Beyond sexy, emotional and heartwarming, Poison is a beautiful story about second chances and letting go of the past for a chance at a happy future!

Overall, Poison was a great read. It grabbed my attention and I was all in for Anna and Lucas. They were amazing characters and their love story was super special. I am giving Poison 4.5 stars and would recommend it to fans of contemporary romance with a second-chance trope!

“I loved Lucas Pierce and he loved me, and this time he was mine to stay.”

EXCERPT

My whole body was screaming out YES, even as my mind was screaming out NO.
He was toxic. Poisonous. The fatality of every scrap of my heart when he’d trashed it all to pieces without even looking back. The man who consumed me, promised me the stars, then destroyed me and left me a betrayed mush on the floor, sobbing my guts up and retching myself to sleep at night.
I hated him.
I’d sworn I’d always hate him.
But I couldn’t stop myself. I couldn’t stop my clit begging and my heart pounding and breath quickening. I couldn’t stop myself giving my needy, filthy shards over to the man who knew how to consume them.
This was me. The real me. The crazy me.
The me everyone I knew would curse at and tell me I was a stupid bitch for letting loose.
The me I’d thrown to the side and ignored through ten years of trying to live a cookie cutter life for my own wellbeing.
And failed.
I’d failed.
I was doomed the second I felt his heat at my back. His breath alive on my neck. His words a whispered hiss at my ear.
“I’ll do more than fuck you, Anna. I’ll take you so fucking hard you’ll be a mess for weeks, and you know it. You know full well the things I’ll fucking do to you, that’s why you’re here.”
Yes. I knew it.
Yes. That’s why I was there.
I let out my first desperate little moan as I turned to face him. His mouth was waiting. Open and fierce and wet.
My lips pressed to his, but his tongue was already set to take mine. It pushed in deep and danced a beautiful dance as his fingers gripped my face and held me tight.
And there it was. That simmer deep inside that you can’t fake or substitute. That heavenly desire that buzzes right through you and blacks out everything else in this life.
He did that to me.
He always had.
And I needed it right now.
I grabbed onto his hair and kissed him like my whole world depended on it. Like he was my salvation. My saviour and destroyer both at once. Enough to drive me out of my mind and lap it up in an orgy of the purest sin.
He was panting now, and there was that smirk of his I knew so well and loved so much, his mouth barely breaking contact.
“You’d better be ready to show me what a filthy little slut you still are.”
“Make me one,” I hissed right back. “Fucking take me.”
