ARC: Doll Parts – Cara Dee Book Review (The Game #4) + Excerpt

Synopsis:

Get ready for a funhouse experience that doesn’t belong in an amusement park. But clowns and balloons don’t turn this scorching hot BDSM romance into a wild ride. That’s all Noa, Cam, Lucian, and KC.

I have the best boyfriend in the whole world, but there’s one thing I won’t tell him. It’s that I don’t believe in absolute happiness anymore. Not with the cards we’ve been dealt. I mean, come on! Why do we fall for people who don’t want us back? While he’s been pining after Lucian, one of the Masters in his kink community, I’m the lovesick monster-puppy Little who can’t forget my former stepdad KC. Or the kinky porn I once found on his computer…but that’s beside the point!

It’s complicated, to be honest. I try not to think about it. I have Cameron, and I love him so damn much. Why can’t we try to make it on our own? Why does he want us to find a Top that’s just ours? It won’t work. Our stupid hearts refuse to move on.

What’s even stupider is that Cameron insists we seek out a Dom for our relationship in the very kink community where we can find both KC and Lucian.

Ohhh crap. I think he’s got a plan.

The Game Series is a BDSM series where romance meets the reality of kink. Sometimes we fall for someone we don’t match with, sometimes vanilla business gets in the way of kinky pleasure, and sometimes we have to compromise and push ourselves to overcome trauma and insecurities. No matter what, two things are certain. This is not a perfect world, and life never turns out the way you planned.

Review:

I’ve enjoyed all of the books in this series so far so I was excited to hear about the release of Doll Parts!

I’m fairly familiar with Cara Dee’s books and I know they tend to be unique, sexy and also very cute. While I have really enjoyed the other stories in this series, I have to say that Doll Parts wasn’t as big of a hit for me as the others were. Nevertheless, it was enjoyable and I’m certainly interested in reading more in this series!

Doll Parts was hot as hell but I wanted more from the romance!

First of all, I liked the storyline. It seemed like it would make for an exciting story with that bit of a taboo element tossed in and some second chance romance and it definitely was exciting but it fell short in the development. Unfortunately, I didn’t have any connection with the characters or feel a genuine connection between them.

Out of the four characters, Noa was only slightly more developed than all the others in my opinion but that left me wanting to know more about Cam, Lucian and KC. When you’re writing a book where the relationship has several people, you want to really take the time to flesh each and every one of them out so that the reader can get a sense of who they are and build a connection with them but that part seemed to be glossed over because I felt like I missed out on a lot. It was kind of taken for granted that the history between KC & Noa and Lucian & Cam would speak for themselves and tell us everything we needed to know about the guys and their relationship but that didn’t work for me. As a result, I never was able to full connect with them.

I also felt like the romance was a little hard to buy into. I could understand the attraction between them and affection/friendship but love felt like a bit of a stretch. Things moved really quickly and I just never felt like they took the time to fall for one another, rather it seemed like everyone already loved each other in an insta-love kind of way and nothing actually evolved besides them officially getting together. I don’t know how else to explain it, not enough happened. It all just kind of blended together for me.

My other thing is with the relationship between the four of them. I never quite felt like it was an MMMM romance, it felt more like a bunch of couples. I don’t think enough time was spent developing the relationship between KC & Cam, KC & Lucian and Lucian & Noa. As a whole, I was just a little disappointed with the characters and their romance.

I did however like the lightheartedness of the story and the steam which was really well done of course. It wasn’t a bad book by any means, it just wasn’t as interesting as I was expecting it to be. Honestly, at this point I’m noticing that the books in this series are kind of blending into one another so that might be my problem. They all just seem too similar and follow a similar pattern.

Steamy and sweet Doll Parts is a fun and quick read but it just didn’t quite meet my expectations.

Overall, I had a nice time reading this book and it was fun to read the cute and sassy banter but I was little disappointed that I didn’t love it. In the end, it ended up being an OK read but not much more than that. It needed a lot more character and relationship development for me to have fallen head over heals with the story but I do think it’ll be a hit for many readers. I am giving Doll Parts 3.75 stars would recommend it to fans of MMMM romance with BDSM elements.

Excerpt

I couldn’t go up there, could I?
I squinted for the sun and peered up at the pale-green–painted trendy restaurant, all three stories of it, including the rooftop terrace. It was one of those restaurants that used to be an apartment building, so you had a bunch of smaller dining areas inside.
I chewed on the inside of my cheek and wondered how the hell I hadn’t connected the dots sooner.
Fuck, it was hot. I ran a hand through my hair and looked around me. The restaurant was right on the corner of a busy intersection, and the sleepy locals on their way to brunch were sharing the sidewalk with tourists.
Maybe I should text him and call it off…
“Excuse me, are you going to the munch?”
I cocked my head to the guy to my left. He was about my age, I estimated. “What if I didn’t know what a munch was?”
He grinned, and it was hot. Hot and cute. “I would’ve said never mind and hightailed it out of here,” he replied. “But I’ve been around long enough to spot someone too nervous to join an event.”
Oh. I wasn’t nervous to join an event. My very first munch, I’d been the first to arrive.
I scratched my head. “I’m stalling because I’m pretty sure I’m barging into someone else’s territory,” I admitted. “My mom’s ex-husband is kinky too.”
The guy made a yikes-face, and I felt the need to elaborate.
“I check his Instagram sometimes, and if he posts four pictures every month, one is from this place,” I explained. “Usually with a caption like ‘Luke is teaching me to post foodporn, whatever that is’ and ‘Macklin’s eggs Benedict are a bit of a religious experience.’”
I could tell I’d mentioned names the guy recognized. I was right. This was the munch of KC’s kink community. Motherfucker. I’d seen eight pictures from this place on KC’s dusty Instagram—or parts of the place. Mostly from the rooftop terrace. Maybe that was where they hosted the munch.
“You know them, don’t you?” I pressed.
The guy smiled uncertainly and shrugged slightly. “We take integrity seriously, but…”
Yeah.
“Who’s your mother’s ex-husband?”
“KC Hayles.”
He nodded once. He’d heard that name too. Then he eyed someone else, or two someones, coming up the sidewalk. They were twins. Hot-as-shit set of twins in their forties.
One of them smirked upon seeing the guy I’d been talking to. “You hidin’, Cameron?”
I observed the guy’s reaction. Cameron. A crooked grin full of mischief lit up his face. He was really fucking cute, and I didn’t usually feel attraction toward men my age. He was a bit taller than me but not much. Blue eyes.
“Does that sound like something I would do, Sir?” Cameron countered.
Definitely a submissive.
One of the twins chuckled and ruffled Cameron’s shaggy, dirty-blond hair. “See you upstairs, boy.” He spared me the quickest of glances, lifted his brow a little, maybe in curiosity, before he and his brother took the steps up to the restaurant.
Cameron turned back to me. “It’s possible you’ve stumbled upon your stepdad’s community.”
I figured. “I’ll just reschedule with the guy I was gonna meet. Thanks for letting me know.”
It wasn’t too important I met him today anyway. It was only a bite to eat to see if I was compatible to play with him and his boyfriend.
Cameron cleared his throat. “Hey, wait. If you know KC… Does that mean you know Lucian too?”
That would be a stretch. “I’ve met him a few times, sure. I wouldn’t say I know him, though.” I’d had my suspicions about Lucian—that he was kinky too. It wasn’t a surprise whatsoever to have it confirmed. He was big-time Master material. “Why? Are you together or something?”
Cameron snorted. “I wish. No, he’s with some dude who’s manipulating him like fucking whoa, and Lucian won’t see it.”
I frowned. That didn’t compute with my impression of Lucian.
“Anyway,” Cameron went on. “Here’s a crazy idea. You wanna get out of here and grab a burger or something? Your plan fell through, and I can think of better things to do than watch Lucian and his little troll.”
I stood straighter instantly. This guy wanted to hang out? Fuck yes! I could use a new friend.
“Absolutely,” I said, sticking out my hand. “I’m Noa.”
Cameron smiled, visibly relieved. “Cameron.”

About Cara

I’m often awkwardly silent or, if the topic interests me, a chronic rambler. In other words, I can discuss writing forever and ever. Fiction, in particular. The love story—while a huge draw and constantly present—is secondary for me, because there’s so much more to writing romance fiction than just making two (or more) people fall in love and have hot sex.
There’s a world to build, characters to develop, interests to create, and a topic or two to research thoroughly.
Every book is a challenge for me, an opportunity to learn something new, and a puzzle to piece together. I want my characters to come to life, and the only way I know to do that is to give them substance—passions, history, goals, quirks, and strong opinions—and to let them evolve.
I want my men and women to be relatable. That means allowing room for everyday problems and, for lack of a better word, flaws. My characters will never be perfect.
Wait…this was supposed to be about me, not my writing.
I’m a writey person who loves to write. Always wanderlusting, twitterpating, kinking, cooking, baking, and geeking. There’s time for hockey and family, too. But mostly, I just love to write.

Ryder, Garrett, Kenzo, and Diesel—The Vipers.

They run this town and everyone in it. Their deals are as sordid as their business, and their reputation is enough to bring a grown man to his knees, forcing him to beg for mercy. They are not people you mess with, yet my dad did. The old man ran up a debt with them and then sold me to cover his losses.

Yes, sold me.

They own me now.

I’m theirs in every sense of the word. But I’ve never been meek and compliant. These men, they look at me with longing. Their scarred, blood-stained hands holding me tight. They want everything I am, everything I have to give, and won’t stop until they get just that. They can own my body, but they will never have my heart.

The Vipers? I’m going to make them regret the day they took me.

Review

I tried so hard to love this book, I really did but in the end, it was just an okay read.

Den of Vipers, on paper, was everything I could have possibly wanted in an RH and had all of the makings to be an absolute hit for me. However, what appears perfect on paper doesn’t always translate to reality and as such, I had some issues with this novel that hindered my enjoyment. Thus, I will elaborate on the lows and highs of my reading experience with Den of Vipers.

I’ll start with the issues that I had with Den of Vipers before moving on to the things that I did like about this book.

When I start reading a novel, I know pretty early on if the writing style is for me or not. Sometimes things just click and run smoothly and other times they do not. As a result, the writing style in a book remains subject to your taste and I don’t intend to paint a negative picture just based on the fact that I could not get behind the writing style in Den of Vipers. Basically, my issue was that I found it stilted and that it bordered on convoluted. What I mean to say by this is that, in a book that was over 600 pages, there were moments that felt rushed when they could’ve benefited from increased development and other moments that were stretched out and tedious. This threw me off and left me underwhelmed and not as gripped by the writing.

My next issue, also with the writing, was regarding repetition. The number of times that the heroine claimed to be scared about how much she wanted the heroes was redundant and eventually became annoying when the repetitions happened mere sentences, paragraphs, and pages away from each other. In addition, there was no substance to her fear as she never acted at all hesitant, afraid, or substantially resistant to her attraction to them. Also, the frequent restatement of how the heroine genuinely believed she would die at the hands of the heroes or die with them or die because of them became tiresome. I’m not judging the heroine or the author for writing her in a way that she could look past their death threats and danger and I wouldn’t have minded it if there was any actual indication of death threats or danger on the part of the heroes. I will elaborate on this later when I talk about the characters. In any case, the constant reiteration of things became annoying.

Now, for the characters, I both liked and disliked them in near equal measures. First, let’s talk about the heroine, with whom I had the most strife. I enjoy a badass heroine who is strong, brave, and assertive as much as the next person but what I do not like is an overly crass, bratty heroine who is difficult to connect to. Roxxane embodied these characteristics to a T and I could not bring myself to even try to like her. In real life, I would not want to be her friend at all, she was exasperating. On top of that, whenever she spoke, it felt like she was trying too hard to be a certain way. She said things that made me cringe, things that were meant to be funny, sarcastic, emotional, or crass, no matter what, it felt like she was over the top in her delivery. A recurring theme between all the characters and their personalities and actions was that it was all very overdramatic.

She also acted uncharacteristically immature for a person as hardened as she claimed to be. Jumping into rooms humming tunes/jingles like she was in an action movie and finding it anticlimactic when no one was on the other side of the door when she was in a life and death situation. I mean to an extent you can be as confident or self-assured as you want but unless I’m reading a PNR, I expect some sort of seriousness in this kind of situation because it’s not like she’s immune to injury or death. I understand this may have been a personality choice for Roxxane made by the author but it made her seem childish and frankly reckless when she was being painted early on as the opposite. Additionally, she was always bored and distracted and by always I mean, every time she was left on her own she was bored and distracted. Did she not spend years of her life on her own? Why is she now bored all of the time? Is it because she is a “captive”? Sure, maybe but her boredom doesn’t need to be a staple in every single chapter written in hers or the guys’ POVs. And even when she was no longer being held against her will, she was still bored and distracted and what exacerbated the ridiculousness of this is that instead of doing anything productive, sex was the only thing to cure her boredom and distraction.

My problems with the heroes were pretty much the same for all four of them.

First, we’ve got Ryder, the leader of sorts, then Kenzo, the sweet and caring guy, followed by Garrett the broody fighter and finally Diesel the ruthless psycho. Now, when I read the synopsis I was so excited to meet each of these guys because they were all so different and I wanted to see how their dynamics would be with the heroine. However, they weren’t all that appealing as individuals. Instead, it felt like they were fulfilling stereotypes and didn’t get enough individual screen time to be properly developed. Instead, whenever we saw Ryder it was in particular circumstances that catered to his profile of leader, saying particular things and acting in a particular way. Same for Kenzo, Garrett, and Diesel. Every time they had individual screen time they were always in a situation that catered to their personalities, and sayings things and doing things that suited their profiles. There was no variety in their characters, they were very much a product of their blurbed description and did not grow or develop beyond that. They were one dimensional and on top of that, so were the sex scenes. These scenes always had a certain similarity whenever they included either Ryder, Kenzo, Diesel, or Garrett. They blended into each other and by the end, I admit, I found myself skimming or reading without even really taking it in. I’ll also add for those who may want to know, there is little to no inter lapping in intimate scenes between Roxy and any of the guys. It was always one hero at a time save for one or two scenes. Additionally, like Roxxane, the heroes were also overly dramatic, especially in their “love” and protectiveness. Saying things like this just because she became friends with her guards:

“Do not even think about her, look at her, or go near her, or I will f*cking smash your faces in.”

Like whoa, I love a dark bad boy, in fact, they are one of my favorite types of heroes but there is a time and a place for this kind of possessive outburst and often, the heroes in Den of Vipers just blurted these things out at times when it was completely unnecessary. It wasn’t hot, it felt forced and as if it was just thrown in as fodder. Finally, to elaborate on what I said earlier about the heroes’ death threats and danger not being all that scary was because they never really actually acted on any of their threats and their rougher, more violent moments were always the same and over time, lost their flare. What this meant was that whenever they made threats or tried to appear dangerous, it just didn’t hit the mark and fell short, it was predictable and inconsequential.

Now, this brings me to my final issue which was with the romance. I was all in with the romance and the development of feelings between Roxanne and her men up until 31% when Ryder claimed he was falling in love with her. After that, I was done for. I mean there are a total of 70 chapters and an epilogue in this book and somehow between chapter 6 when they first meet and chapter 24 where he makes this claim, love feelings have sprung. Doubtful, especially because in this eighteen chapter interim the interactions between Roxanne and all of the guys were little more than argumentative, combative, and generally filled with discord. There was no significant heart to heart moments or even moments where she wasn’t at their throats. I don’t and won’t magically believe that they fell in love with her fighting them because come on, that’s a stretch. Roxanne too went from being anti Vipers one second to being all over them in the next. Her feelings for and towards the guys changed in the blink of an eye and rendered it unbelievable. And even as the book went on, the romance was never fully developed. It was as if the love feelings were thrown at my face to say hey, they’re all in love, know it believe cause that’s all you’re getting. From then on it was just sex and trivial statements of I love you.

Now, that that has been addressed, it may seem like there was nothing that I liked about this book but that isn’t true, there were some elements that I did enjoy.

Above all, I believe this book had a strong and interesting storyline. I think there was room for improvement in terms of delivery, sure, but the idea and plot were incredibly eye-catching. I don’t doubt this book will be a huge hit for many as it is action-packed, somewhat suspenseful, and features some steaminess. I also enjoyed the ending and the way all the loose ends were tied up. For a long time, I wasn’t sure where things were heading but in the end, K.A. Knight brought Roxxane, Ryder, Kenzo, Garrett, and Diesel’s story to a nice close which I appreciated. The multiple POVs were also a bonus treat which I really appreciated as it gave insight into the thoughts of each character individually. And most of all, I can’t completely knock this book because I did make it through the entire book without wanting to DNF it. It was intriguing enough to make me want to read on, to see where things would go, see how things would progress and what would happen next. For that, the simple fact that the book kept me reading from start to finish and did not make me desperate to put it down was a big positive.

While my expectations for Den of Vipers weren’t entirely met, it is still a solid, sexy, and action-packed reverse harem!

Overall, as I said, there were ups and downs and unfortunately, Den of Vipers wasn’t the epic book I was hoping for. Nonetheless, it has things going for it and I would recommend it to fans of reverse harem even though it wasn’t my favorite because I know that it has qualities that others may enjoy. K.A. Knight does a wonderful job of crafting this elaborate, cutthroat world and for that, it was a thrilling read. Nevertheless, several elements prevented me from loving it and as such, I am giving it 3 stars.

“There’s an old quote, ‘Throw me to the wolves, and I will come back leading the pack.’ I was thrown to the Vipers, and now they are mine.”

The room is filled with chatter, laughter, and the clinking of forks on plates, but all I can hear is my own heart as Kenzo teases me.
The asshole.
His hand lands on my thigh under the table and strokes upwards along my leg, getting higher and higher as he nips at my neck. Eyes still on Ryder, I shift again, trying to ignore my throbbing pussy. Kenzo licks along my neck before he starts to nibble on my ear. I can’t help but swallow hard as he parts my thighs and presses his hand to my wet knickers, the dress giving him full access.
“I can feel how wet you are,” he murmurs darkly, his voice hungry. “I bet if I slipped my fingers into your tight little cunt, you would come for me, wouldn’t you?”
“You wouldn’t dare,” I snap, trying to act tough, but as soon as the words leave my lips, I realise what I’ve done.
Laid down a challenge… to a man who thrives on gambling and bets.
Fuck.
Ryder’s lips turn up slightly, like he knows what’s going to happen. Leaning back in his chair, his phone forgotten on the table, he stares at me. No doubt noting the rise and fall of my chest, my parted lips, and the blush staining my cheeks and creeping down my neck. An arm draped across his chair, legs parted, he sits there waiting like he’s watching the fucking theatre.
And I’m the act.
Kenzo pulls away for a moment and I glance over at him in surprise. He doesn’t seem like the type to back down, but then he’s there, the glint of a blade flashing under the lights before it presses against my knicker-clad pussy. I freeze, barely breathing, and he laughs in my ear.
“They are in the way,” he growls, before he slices them off. I gasp loudly as cool air blows across my wet center.
I watch him tuck the knife and my underwear in his pocket before his hand is stroking up my thigh again. I can’t help it, I part my legs further for him, hitting Garrett’s huge thigh under the table. My gaze jerks up to his to see him peering down at me. He’s angry, as usual, but I also see a deep hunger there.
I want to move away, I should. He doesn’t like me, or women, or to be touched. But he doesn’t shift away and neither do I. My leg presses along his as his brother’s hand finally covers my heat.

Review:

Holy hell was this book ever crazy!

I don’t know what I was expecting but it definitely wasn’t this. I am a fan of dark romance and hadn’t read any in a while so I was definitely in the mood, but Depravity was unlike anything I’ve ever read! The title says it all, it is wicked and sick but there is just something so addictive and intriguing about it! I actually really enjoyed it and will absolutely read more from Natalie Bennett!

This was the kind of book you know you should have reservations about but you just can’t help loving it!

Wow, I don’t think I was expecting to like this book as much as I did but I’m really glad I had the opportunity to review an ARC because it was great. This was the first book I’d ever read from Natalie Bennett and her writing really left an impression. It was super addictive and had me flying through the book and ultimately finishing it in one day! Her writing flows really well and is crazy captivating. The plot was super interesting and very unique and I don’t think I’ve read anything at all like this before so that’s obviously a huge plus! As for the characters, well I liked them a whole lot! Declan was more the serious, takes-no-shit guy out of the three of them but I really liked how he was so kind and caring with those he held close to his heart. Then there was Ethan who was equally as intense as Declan but had a more humoristic streak to his personality. He as well had a soft spot for his lovers and I liked him very much. Helena was a character I would’ve never seen coming and never thought I would’ve grown to like. She’s odd and depraved in a very sick way but she went through some tough things that made her the way she is. Despite this, she had a genuine, innocent quality to her that made you kind of like her even when she was doing crazy shit! Obviously, all three characters are fucked up but their whole story and dynamic is just so darn addictive, you can’t help but want to read more and more. I did enjoy their romance because of how passionate, intense and sexy it was. And I mean, really steamy! They truly cared for one another and that shone through which I really appreciated. It helped balance the dark in this story.

DEPRAVITYTEASER (1)

While I was very much into everything this book had to offer, a little something held me back from giving it a full 5 stars.

Ultimately, I couldn’t give it a full rating because there were times in the story where things got slightly repetitive and a bit predictable. It wasn’t a huge issue but I was just hoping for more to happen in the characters relationship. I think Depravity could’ve done with a dose more of development and I think the one thing that could’ve helped was to make the book a little longer. The ending felt cut off too soon but it also seemed like an open ending so maybe there is more to come in the world of Declan, Ethan, and Helena. I definitely hope so because I’m already ready for more!

Intense, sexy and depraved (pun intended) 😉, Depravity was an entertaining and addictive read with some of the sickest characters and plotline I’ve ever read!

Overall, while I thought this book had predictable and repetitive moments and maybe could’ve been stretched out a little longer, it was super enjoyable! I was addicted to this book and could not put it down which is why I flew through it so quickly. This is one dark romance I’ve never experienced before and I really loved the characters and their unique story! Natalie Bennett’s writing was really great in this book and I’m definitely interested in reading more from her soon! I’m really hoping these characters get another book but for now, I’m giving Depravity 4.25 stars and would recommend it to fans of MMF and dark romance!

“Helena Gardener. Beautiful girl. Rotten to the core. But to me, she had a heart of gold, and my balls secured in the palm of her hand.”

Lovers-Banner2-1024x383

Blurb:

I loved him first.

Jake was my best friend in college-my very straight best friend, until one night he was more. He may have ran after what happened between us, but I never forgot him.

When fate puts us in the same place, five years later, he has a fiance by his side. Carina is beautiful, driven, and draws my attention almost as much as he still does.

A game of truth or dare leads to a wild night and a relationship that has our feelings growing into something bigger than any of us intended.

But what happens when our feelings deepen? Can I handle being with two people?

If it means I can have him, I’ll love them both.

Review:

The Lovers wasn’t at all what I was expecting but man was it ever good!

The simple synopsis cannot possibly prepare you for the whirlwind Fiona Cole puts you through in The Lovers. It was addictive, steamy, intense and had the most satisfying ending! I really enjoyed the characters for the most part and the romance was really nice! All in all, this was a great read.

I wasn’t prepared for the ride I was about to take when I first went into this book, but I can honestly, coming off of it, I was so damn happy!

I’ll first start off by saying I am new to Fiona Cole’s writing but this book definitely sold me. I actually went ahead and added a few of her books to my TBR! She has a way of hooking you into a story and I couldn’t put The Lovers down. I flew through it so quickly and by the end, I didn’t want to finish because I was so into it! Then there were the characters who were all lovely in their own ways. I’m a sucker for a good MMF every once in a while but after having read this book, I categorize it more so as a love-triangle than as an MMF romance. There are a fair bit of MMF scenes but in the grand scheme of things, it very much is at its core a love-triangle. Carina was a nice girl and though she was the lesser developed character of the three, I did appreciate her role in the relationship. I thought she was very accepting and accommodating and these qualities made her a wonderful friend and lover. Jake was also quite awesome! He was kind, caring and had so much love to give. He struggled with himself and his feelings on multiple occasions but his character growth shone through and made him really enjoyable to read about! Then there is my personal favorite, Jackson. He put himself out there despite the risk of getting hurt and I admired his strength and bravery. He was funny and cute, sexy and cheeky and I fell for him quite early on. Since this was a love triangle, you’re meant to root for two out of the three characters to be together and I knew from the very first moment who they were because the chemistry and bond were unshakeable and the sexual tension, palpable. The romance as a whole was super steamy and very explosive. As the story progressed though, love played a bigger part and the storyline started to play out which I appreciated.

While for the most part, this book was great, I did feel like it lacked a bit in the plotline and content area, at least for the first half of the book. Let me explain, for the first 50% or so, the story really was centered around sex and didn’t venture far from an erotic romance. There wasn’t anything hinting at a romance or deeper storyline and that had me a bit hesitant. I was worried it wouldn’t develop and would remain a purely erotic novel but as time went by as I said, the plot started to develop and as the romance took root, all those worries washed away! However, throughout the whole book despite really being into it, there was just a little something that got in the way of loving it to the point of rating it 5 stars so even though I love the ending, I had to be conscious of that going into this review.

Erotic, intense and character-driven, The Lovers was a whirlwind of emotions in the best way possible.

Overall, I did really like this book. It wasn’t quite the MMF romance I was expecting but rather a love-triangle but I still really enjoyed it. The characters were really likable and though they weren’t super developed, I still managed to create a connection with them. The romance was also really good but was primarily erotica in the first half before becoming more emotional in the second half which I appreciated. Fiona Cole really did sell me on her writing in this book and I’ll definitely be picking up more from her. The ending in this book was so great and I had a big smile on my face! I’m giving The Lovers 4 stars and would recommend it to fans of love-triangle and MMF romance!

“Maybe a part of me finally wanted to know what his lips felt like against mine. Maybe I was using this game as a perfect excuse to find out and not have to question my reasoning behind it.”
